2012 Vancouver Scrabble® Tournament

Early Bird

Check in begins at 8:30 A.M.; play starts at 9:30 A.M.
Divisions
Players will be placed into divisions of 8 based on their NASPA rating on February 28, 2012; unrated players will be placed at the director's discretion.
Format
8 Rounds -- Round Robin + King of the Hill, with Gibsonization. The bottom division may have more than 8 players, in which case that division will play 7 modified Swiss + KOTH.
Entry Fee
$35 CDN. There is an additional $5 commuter fee for all players (including local players) who are not staying at the Hilton. Registration deadline is February 28, 2012. No refunds once play begins.

Saturday March 3rd: check in 8:30-9:00 A.M.; rounds 1-8, starting at 9:30 A.M.
Sunday March 4th: rounds 9-14, starting at 9:00 A.M.
Divisions
Three divisions:
  • Division A -- open to all players.
  • Division B -- restricted to players with a NASPA rating under 1700.
  • Division C -- restricted to players with a NASPA rating under 1200.
NAPSA ratings on Feb. 28, 2012 will be used to determine which divisions a player will be permitted to play in.
Format
14 Rounds -- Modified Swiss + King of the Hill, with Gibsonization.
Entry Fee
Div. A -- $90 CDN; Div. B -- $70 CDN; Div. C -- $50 CDN. There is an additional $10 commuter fee for all players (including local players) who are not staying at the Hilton. Registration deadline is February 28, 2012. No refunds once play begins.
Equipment
Please bring Deluxe Scrabble® Boards, clocks, and tournament tiles if you have them.
NASPA Membership
This tournament is sanctioned by the North American Scrabble Players Association; you must be a member in order to play. Membership is $30/year, with a 6-month trial membership available to new players for $15. You can join or renew your membership online at http://www.scrabbleplayers.org/w/Membership.

Accomodations

The Hilton Vancouver Airport is offering us a Vancouver Scrabble Club special rate of $105/night + taxes for either a guest room with two double beds, or a junior suite with one king bed and sofa bed. Up to four people can stay in a room at this rate.

The Hilton is centrally located in Richmond, within walking distance of Richmond Centre mall, Minoru Park, and the Canada Line Skytrain. The hotel offers complimentary airport shuttle service.

Registration is now closed. If you are interested in entering the tournament, please contact Chris Williams. We cannot guarantee that you will be allowed to play.

Saturday After Hours

The main ballroom will be available until midnight on Saturday for games, socializing, and other activities.

Tony Verma will be holding a poker game in the ballroom starting at 7pm; the entry fee will be $20.

Restaurants

Carmichael's, the Hilton's on-site restaurant, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The hotel also has a lounge, Sax on Minoru, that is open until midnight seven days per week.
